As one might imagine I have experienced more than my fair share of kidding about the name “Glasscock” over the years. When I was a kid it really got to me, but as I got older I began to appreciate the name more. Few people ever forget it, which can be a bonus for a guy hoping to stand out from the crowd. There’s even a Glasscock county in Texas!

Where does the name come from? Various sources put it as a very old (circa 1500’s) name of English origin. The cock suffix having evolved over time from a word meaning roughly young man or boy back in the 1300’s. For example you’d have the glass blowers son (Glasscock), the wood workers son (Woodcock), etc. Or so I’ve read.
