catb 266: Santacon

Happy Christmas everybody. The traditional 'Tickets' Christmas comic will be out on Monday, but after NYC's Santacon took place on my own block this year, I got the idea to make a comic about the CATB gang participating as well. Fun fact, this is the forst comic I've completed in under a week in... forever (at least it feels that way). The stress of job hunting just killed my creativity (What am I doing drawing? I should be looking for work!) It can e soul crushing. There is good news in the job front. I can't say anything officially, but suffice to say, I'll be in a much better place in a couple of weeks. Savvy Casey readers may have noticed one of the bars in this comic bears the name of legenday gay comic artist, Howard Cruse's comic character Wendel. Howard passed away on Nov 26 at the age of 75. His comics, especially Wendell, had a huge impact on my work back in day. He was the founding editor of Gay Comix (1980-1983), and launched Wendel shortly afterward. His graphic novel 'Stuck Rubber Baby' was published in 1985. If you're unfamiliar with Howard's work, I cant recommend them highly enough. I was fortunate to meet Howard at a comic conference in 2016, where he signed a Wendel collection for me. It makes for a nice keepsake.

  1. I’m out of the loop at times; I didn’t know Howard Cruse had passed away! The “Wendel” bar name was vaguely familiar! Nice tribute to him Bob! His work made me feel better about myself and coming to terms with my sexuality. You are continuing to doing the same with your stories Bob, for me and many other readers! Keep up the good work my friend!
